Bali River Tubing in Ubud

You sit in an inflatable tube and the river carries you. There is no paddling and nothing to steer, so it is a slow drift through jungle, rice fields and rock walls rather than a workout. A guide floats with the group the whole way.

If you have looked at our rafting trips, this is the calm opposite. Rafting is a crew paddling grade II to III rapids. Tubing is one person per tube on a gentle current, and it is the one to pick if you want the river without the adrenaline.

The Pakerisan is the open-air route. It runs about 4.5 kilometres and takes roughly an hour and a half, drifting past jungle, rice fields and quiet stretches of river well away from the busy parts of Ubud. This is the one most people book.

The cave route is shorter at around 1.5 kilometres, and it takes you underground through Bali's hidden cave rivers beneath the jungle. Pick this one if you want the unusual experience rather than the longer float.

No experience needed. The current is gentle, safety gear is provided, and a guide stays with the group from the entry point to the finish. You are sitting in a tube, not swimming.

It suits a wide range of ages, which is why families book it when the ATV or rafting feels like too much. If you are bringing very young children, or anyone with a health or mobility concern, message us first and we will tell you honestly whether it works.

The Pakerisan float is about an hour and a half on the water. Add hotel pickup, the walk to the entry point, and changing afterwards, and the tubing on its own fills a morning or an afternoon. The cave route is shorter.

Most of the packages on this page pair tubing with something else and run as full days. If you only want the river, book one of the standalone trips.

Tubing gear and safety equipment, a local guide, and free hotel pickup come with every booking. Several packages also include a meal, and the package name says so where that applies.

Combo packages cover whatever the other activities need as well. If something matters to you and you cannot see it listed, ask before you book.

Most people do. Tubing works well as the calm half of a day that starts with something faster, so the common pairing is the Gorilla Cave ATV in the morning and the river after.

It also combines with the rice terrace zipline and jungle swing, waterfalls, Monkey Forest, the holy water temples, a Cretya sunset, and a Mount Batur sunrise for anyone who wants a very early start and a gentle finish.

You will be soaked. Wear swimwear or quick-dry clothes with sandals that strap on, and bring a full change of clothes and a towel. Sunscreen is worth having on the open Pakerisan route.

Leave anything you cannot get wet at your hotel. If you want photos, use a waterproof case with a strap, and even then it is at your own risk.
